Project Overview

This project consisted of the building of a new flue gas desulfurization (FGD) landfill and leachate pond.  The project included the initial mass grading along with the mucking out and filling of an existing pond.  The landfill and pond both had liners consisting of a lower layer of geosynthetic clay, a middle layer of a non-woven geotextile fabric, and an upper layer of a 60-mil HDPE geomembrane. In the landfill we then placed a 3’ thick protective layer over the liner materials.  We also laid a HDPE perforated pipe underdrain system to take contaminated water off the landfill to the leachate pond.

100,000 CY of Mass Grading

890,000 SF of Geosynthetic Clay Liner

890,000 SF of 60-mil HDPE Geomembrane

3,500 LF of HDPE Pipe Installation

1,400 Tons of Rip Rap installed

This latest project at Jeffrey Energy Center continues our long-standing partnership with Westar Energy on many successfully completed construction projects including a wetlands treatment system, pump station, coal yard dewatering building, and site grading.
